Wilma Jones-Scott

Wilma Scott joined the City of Jackson in December of 2017.  In this role, Ms. Scott is responsible for overseeing the function of Human Resources for the city of Jackson, Mississippi.  The Office of Human Resources is responsible for processing new hires, benefits administration, civil service examination, compensation administration, payroll, organizational development, and training.

 

Prior to coming to the City of Jackson, Ms. Scott held the positions of Director of the Area Office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission/Jackson, Mississippi; Enforcement Manager, EEOC Headquarters/Washington, DC., Acting Deputy for Communications and Legislative Affairs, EEOC/Washington, DC; Enforcement Supervisor, Baltimore, MD; EEO Federal Investigator, Houston, Texas.  She was a senior trainer for the Commission, charged with developing and training investigators in offices throughout the country.  She held the position of Housing Discrimination Coordinator for the Leadership Council for Metropolitan Open Communities, Chicago, Illinois - where she ran a systemic fair housing auditing/testing program that developed the evidence to pursue fair housing litigation.

Ms. Scott holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Tuskegee University and has completed several hours towards a Masters in Journalism/Communications.  She completed certification in Mediation/Conflict Resolution and Negotiations and served as a Technical Assistance Presenter for the EEOC at several Regional Trainings.  She has received outstanding performance awards from the Commission over her 30 years of service with the Commission. 

Ms. Scott coauthored a handbook on Affirmative Marketing in Housing for the City of Park Forest, Illinois.  She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the NAACP, and the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement.
