Mississippi Bail Fund Collective
We are a coalition of social workers, attorneys, and activists from across Mississippi working on issues related to cash bail, mass criminalization and mass incarceration. The Mississippi Bail Fund Collective is an initiative of the People’s Advocacy Institute, a fiscally-sponsored nonprofit organization. To better serve Mississippi, we are partnering with The Bail Project, a national nonprofit organization that provides free bail assistance and pretrial support to thousands of low-income people every year.

What do we do?
We assist people who cannot afford bail and offer compassionate help to reverse the damage their jail stay has caused. Through our team of social workers and peer counselors, we support folks re-entering their communities.
How can we work for Mississippi?
We believe in ending money bail. We would therefore encourage all Mississippi courts to release those charged with crimes on their own recognizance whenever possible. Where the court determines that a monetary form of bond is appropriate for someone, that individual may be eligible to receive bail assistance from us.
How do we post bond?
The Mississippi Bail Fund Collective is not a bonding agency, and does not act as a surety. Instead, we post the full amount via cash or cashier’s check. When our client successfully completes their court obligations, we take the money that is refunded and return it to our revolving bail fund. That money is then used to post bail for our next client.
